Warrior does a very good using examples to explain Roman religion. Especially for someone who is new to this area of history. It isn't overwhelming with details, but it has enough to get the main points across. A very well rounded, basic book on Roman religion and good basis point for anyone looking to understand it.
this is a sourcebook of short excerpts relating to various aspects of Roman Religion, including astrology, sacrifice, the role of the family cults, and the like.I found the selection to be good and the translations accessible. I think this is a very helpful book on the subject. Highly recommended.
In 129 pages, Ms Warrior does an excellent job with an introduction to Religious Life in Ancient Rome. She covers the major aspects of religion and how it worked for the Romans without getting bogged down in the immense details. It enlightens and alludes to the depth of information about Roman religion while keeping a very readable text and avoiding many pitfalls of academic writing. An excellent read!

Used this book during my honeymoon. My husband and I left for the honeymoon 2 days after our wedding, and therefore did not plan out our trip too thoroughly beyond making flight/hotel reservations, and picking a couple sites we wanted to see (using this book, mainly) prior to boarding our flight. This book is laid out well and the maps helped immensely as we added smaller excursions to our itinerary each day. The write-ups were cleaver and gave us a good idea of which activities would be enjoyable to us and which ones to skip. Prices and hours for attractions/tours were also listed which also helped us figure out what we could and couldn't do.
This book is a very thorough breakdown of multiple towns and cities in Ireland. A bit heavy if you are planning to carry it on a trip but it covers everything you might have a question on. Highly recommend it.
This book is packed full of great information!! I am pleased that I purchased it. I did leave off one star simply because it is rather heavy and bulky. I bought it and I took it with me on my vacation to Ireland. I found it to be easier to pull out my cell phone and look up information on the fly rather than pulling out this book. But it was very fun to read before the trip to get excited and get some good ideas! But if you are a tech savvy person you might just find it easier to look up travel information on the internet.
I purchased this book based on reviews on Amazon stating it was better than Rick Steeves book. I respectfully disagree with those reviews. I personally find Rick Steeves book gives me more practical information. That is not to say this is not a good travel book and does have helpful information, but I was hoping for more specific details. I love the pull out map of Dublin and will be using it during our 4 days there.
Excellent purchase, will take with me on up coming trip. Have many pages fill with posted notes and maps marked off I bought other travel books, this is the one that I will be taken
This worked great for our trip to Ireland. Since we didn't upgrade our iPhone data plan for Europe, we needed this to find places and things to do. My wife jotted notes in from our entire trip. Very well written and a huge help on our vacation.

I love that they are Disney patterns to cross stitch. I bought this book for Minnie Mouse patternS. There was only Minnie's shadow head. Soooo, disappointed!!!!! That is why only 4 stars. My little granddaughter just loves Minnie I was hoping to cross stitch a picture of Minnie. Will most likely use Pinterest. Will use some of the other Disney patterns in book. Only problem from shopping on-line is not being able to see full items to make sure they're what you want.

Penny Billington has written a warm, accessible and wise book, based on her own extensive experience in Druidry and ritual magic. The emphasis here is on practical ways of being a Druid by doing what Druids do, and whenever necessary and appropriate, adapting the exercises she gives to one's own circumstances and capacities. Of course, no book can replace doing the work at hand, whether it's learning basic chords and fingerings as a guitarist, mastering the forms and patterns of a foreign language, or the art and science of breadmaking and brewing.But the author offers a great deal. As an active and longtime member of OBOD (the Order of Bards Ovates and Druids), and a student of the teaching of Dion Fortune (founder of Society for Inner Light, and one of the major figures in the authentic occult and magical tradition issuing from the U.K.), Billington draws on these streams, while shaping a coherent and profound entrance to Druidry. As she notes, you can walk the solitary path, or join a Druid organization. But making use of texts like this one can be a useful middle way. The book, as the author notes, is consciously in step with contemporary practice, annotated so that readers can check and verify sources for themselves, and brim-full of techniques and practices in keeping with the teachings of several modern Druid organizations. The emphasis is on finding one's own Druidry, not conforming to some arbitrary standard of ritual or someone else's "real" Druid ideal.Much has been made about how the specific practices and beliefs of ancient Druids are forever lost to us since they left no written records, and the references to Druids in the works of classical Greek and Roman authors are mostly based on secondhand accounts and sometimes markedly biased. But what such writers and speakers often forget is the surviving body of legend, myth, teaching and wisdom in Celtic literature. In each chapter, Billington includes an adaptation of a story from the Mabinogion, the Welsh collection of myth, legend and teaching which has wonderful relevance and serves as a storehouse of much Druid teaching. Sustained meditation on these stories will reveal much of use and value to the aspirant after a Druidry that is authentic simply because it is grounded in knowledge and practice.Billington also develops the idea of the three rays of knowledge, nature and devotion into a coherent and balanced teaching. I especially liked how, throughout the text, she raises at least as many questions as possible answers, and how in each chapter she points us toward finding our own answers, as a good teacher should. Finally, Billington's book is both orderly and spiraling, acknowledging that we return to the foundations, revisit the basics, at many different times in our journey, often to see them as new and fresh because it is we who have moved and changed and grown. Highly recommended.
In the past ten years or so many books on Druidry or druid spirituality have been published. This is not the best but far from the worst of the lot I have read. The scholarship is basically sound and in tune with the latest in archeology and analysis of what is known about the ancient Celtic peoples. Each "druid" book offers a slighty different 'take' on the modern practice, mostly offshoots of either the OBOD or ADF version. One can take their choice, combine aspects of both or forge off in new directions. This book can assist no matter which course one selects.
A beautiful book that gives wonderful insights into the Druidic path. I think anyone can benefit from reading this book for its honest respect for all of nature.

This book reads easily; is not too simplistic, but also is not full of jargon. Great introduction to Druidry, whether your intentions are to begin to practice, you want to incorporate a new philosophy into your belief, or just to learn more about other practices and beliefs, this is a well written addition to your library.
I’m currently studying though OBOD and I got the audio book and after a few hours I knew I wanted the book it’s well worth the money especially if you are looking into joining OBOD

An excellent book. Am giving copies to my 13 year old grandson and his best buddy this very afternoon. Not only is it interesting to read, but the design of the book is stellar. There are many highlighted quotations and photographs to help bring alive the story for young minds. And the rich-looking cover! Made to look like currency, it has foil and feels three-dimensional, with great details. With hats off to the author, and to Raphael Geroni Design, for a gorgeous book inside and out.
Listed as for teens, but great for easy, quick reading with lots of info. I wanted it for background before seeing the musical HAMILTON.
Such an entertaining, accessible, fluid way to really dig into Alexander Hamilton's life and learn what made him tick. Because what made him tick is also what made him die.Wonderful additional material at the back and an inspiring, tear-jerking note from the author about what are our duties to our both our country and Alexander Hamilton himself these days.
