This is a story that anyone who has served in the armed forces would enjoy. The author brings to life the molding of a young crew who matured in an unforgettable battle during WW2. This group of 224 men fought a much larger Japanese force from their destroyer escort against battleships and cruisers to protect escort carriers. Although the ship was sunk and 90 men were lost, the author brings the stories of many of the individuals and their families. The closeness of the survivors as well as some of the families of the deceased remained for many years. The destroyer escort, Samuel B. Roberts lives on as several US Navy ship have inherited the name.
This book presented a good background of the USS Samuel B Roberts (Sammy B) and it’s original crew. My father joined the ship only several weeks before it saw action and was sunk. While his handwritten account shortly after the war differs from the author’s, there is always the issue of perspective. All in all, I believe Mr. Wukovits presented a balanced and realistic version of the chaos that must have occurred during the battle of Leyte Gulf. I would recommend this book.
Mr. Wukovits is to be thanked for providing one last glimpse into the lives of a stalwart crew who did their duty with honor and integrity in the face of death. This is not a history of Taffy 3 or the Battle off Samar. As the cover states, it's as intimate look as a non-crew-member will ever get of a particular ships company. Anyone with time at sea will recognize the timelessness of these men and their personalities.I hope there is always a USN ship in-commission named Roberts, Carr and Copeland.
Awe inspiring. Heart wrenching. Gut wrenching. Bravery almost beyond belief. This is the story of the heroic sailors of the USS Samuel B. Roberts during an historic battle in the Pacific of Ww2. This book and how those sailors fought for crew and our country will stay with me forever now. And I plan on visiting their memorial in San Diego to offer up a heartfelt thank you for what they accomplished and sacrificed.
This is a sad book. If you have any clue what happens during Leyte Gulf you know the ending won't be pretty. But Wukovits does a good job of telling the story of the ship and getting you attached to the crew. Once the battle at Leyte occurs the detail in the book is excellent.I always think the worst part to these poor sailors is how long they get left in the water after the fight. Just as explained in the Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors - these brave guys have to spend a long time waiting to get plucked out of the sea.
Starts slow with a detailed background of many of the crew, but the last 2/3 of the book is absolutely riveting.
For some mysterious reason I am presently fascinated with WWII history ,there are frightening similarities now that were present in the world leading up to this conflagration ...I enjoyed the book ...I read too rapidly to find any fault with the content ...
For Crew and Country chronicles the extraordinary bravery and valor of the Destroyer escort USS Samuel B. Roberts crew, when confronted with over whelming odds against the Japanese Navy off Samar Island in the Philippines. The author John Wukovits presents a detailed account of the ship and crew which provides an insight into the daily lives of sailors aboard a ship of the fleet. In addition to a connection one feels with the crew the author is able to describe the events that occured to an extent that one can vividly picture what had taken place that eventful day. Carrying only two five inch guns, Lieutenant Commander Robert Copeland directed the crew to charge head long toward the Japanese Cruisers and Battleships carrying 8-14 inch guns. As a commander of another ship commented, it was a suicidal run. I highly recommend this book which is an inspirational true story of bravery and sacrifice aboard the USS Samuel B. Roberts.

By the name of the book title, I fully expected a reference book that can guide you through the nuts and bolts of estate planning. However, the book provides only very basic knowledge. Probably only those who totally have no clue what estate planning is would find it marginally useful. In addition, the paper is of the quality of a paperback and that pretty much summarizes what you should expect from it.
Very thorough book; still will need an estate attorney to help you sort through everything. But read it and be prepared.
The authors of The Complete Guide to Planning your Estate in New York are obviously well-intentioned. They make it clear that they want to help people protect and provide for their families and that they want them to do it in a timely fashion so that no detail is left unconsidered. This is noble and necessary, but it does not save the book from being extremely dry and a touch overwhelming in its `no stone unturned' approach. That being said, the authors make it clear that this book is mainly a primer and that many hired professionals such as attorneys, financial planners and insurance brokers must be consulted in the process of estate planning. The authors give detailed consideration to all aspects of estate planning, including wills, trusts, life insurance, taxes, probate court, living gifts and final expenses. To their credit they don't shy away from helping people with debt - giving them options on how their beneficiaries can best manage it, and they give considerable space to discussing how primary breadwinners can choose options that allow their families to access needed funds while their assets may be held up with probate or other delays. I also commend their appendices which function as a series of worksheets to lay out as meticulous or as simple an estate plan as needed. All in all, with the help of the appropriate professionals, this book could be quite the helpful tool in estate preparation

This book is very easy to read and isn't overly filled with legal jargon even though it is written by a lawyer. The author's obvious empathy to her clients over the years shines through her words. The author's experience in practiced estate law and planning lends to easy to understand practical steps one must think about and do in order to protect your estate should you no longer be able to for whatever reason.
I am by no means a wealthy person, particularly given the state of the economy. Like most Americans, I've had concerns regarding my financial security and the financial security of my loved ones once I pass away. The Complete Guide to Planning Your Estate in New York has proven to be a shining light in an otherwise disconcerting future.This guide manages to take a rather mundane, certainly dry, topic and make it light and readable. I was not inundated with legalese and complex jargon that I didn't understand. I'm such a sucker for couples that are better together than they are apart and this couple is certainly one of those. David and Ev fall fast - instalove - but I loved every moment of it! David's crazy life as a rock star has gotten to him. He can't write songs and the fake world around him leaves him empty. Evelyn grounds him from the first moment they meet. And while he brings some crazy into her life, Ev responds to David like she has no one else. Better together. That's what couples should always be - better together. But when two people come from such different worlds, there are bound to be issues. Lots and lots of issues. A $200 tank top is one of them.I really enjoyed these characters - the whole band really. I'm excited that there are more books for each. Mal (the DRUMMER - I so love drummers) is the one I'm most excited to read and it's next! All these characters are the reason I fell in love with this book.Of course, the story was interesting with lots of places for me to cheer and shout. I loved that (at different points in the story) each of them struggled to let the other back into their heart. It felt like the relationship had to be earned again and again despite how quickly it happened. That made up for the instalove for me.The writing is first person (my favorite) and completely from Evelyn's point of view. I think the only thing that could have made this book better would be if we got to be inside David's head. All the little plot points where wrapped up - something that I always look for. And the way is paved for Mal. He makes a comment near the end of this book that he's not going down the marriage path. HA! You're next sucker!Rock star drama, cuddle time with side of yummy kissing - this story will capture you!

I enjoyed how the author had David or Ev suggest ways to each other to bring back the memories of that night. Kissing is one, but a man after my own huge huggin' heart, David likes to treat Ev as his cuddle toy…A fave part of the story of mine is a case in point ...“Will you sing something for me?â€He made a noncommittal noise.“Did you sing to me that night?â€He gave me a pained smile. “Yeah, I did.â€â€œSo it might bring back a memory. Please sing me something?â€â€œOkay,†he huffed. “Turn back around then. We were in spoon position for this.â€I snuggled back down against him and he shuffled closer. Being David’s cuddle toy was a wonderful thing. I couldn’t’ imagine anything better.***I can feel the heat!***Damnnnnnn. Nice work Kylie Scott. Way to set a mans kindle on fire. David and Ev are scorching hot together. The sexy times had my hand moving south plenty of times, and speaking of plenty, there’s plenty of heat in this book but unlike some sexy times that read like a freakin instruction manual (may be judging my own writing efforts in that regard), these sexy times also had a whole lotta heart.***About Ev***It’s a pleasure to be in this woman’s head. She’s funny as F. She’s quirky, a lil insecure (who isn’t) but entirely relatable which makes her a lil charmer and she’s perfect for sexy, bad boy rock star David who is sick of all the fakes in his life. Well Ev would give fake a freaking rash. So look out fake, you don’t stand a chance around this woman. She’s REAL. Deal with it. That said I would be a little (ok A LOT) annoyed if she didn’t remember getting married to ME. Benny would have showed her a night no woman could forget. Not even tequila would inoculate a memory of such an epic, hard, deep hugging night. Lol.***About David***For a rock star, he’s actually quite down to earth, and romantic. This bad boy’s got his own damage for sure from his past but that doesn’t stop him from being the passionate slightly crazy f he is. He adores Ev and that’s bloody sensational. I also liked how Kylie Scott introduced us to the other band members here, the ultra bad and damaged lead singer Jimmy (also David’s brother), the cocky, sex mad drummer, Mal, and the brooding, grunty bearded one, Ben (that brother is a bit too serious to share my freakin name but hey).***Overall***Darlin’s what a hilarious HOT read! I first saw this book in Cracker Barrel store and made the mistake of not picking it up. I went back and it was gone. I have been in close to 20 Cracker Barrel restaurant's since in many states looking for it without success. I found it on Amazon and had it in my hands in three days! It brought back many memories for me since I grew up during the 60's lusting over the "Cars of the 60's"!!!

Didn't feel it was done as well done as the book on the cars of the '50s. The committee effort may not have been the best idea. However, it was an OK follow up and seems like a necessary library addition to round out the end of the dream of the American automobile era.
This book on the cars of the 60's is very well done. Great pictures and good information as I lived through the 60's. My first car was a 63 Chevy. The book came in like new condition and I would not hesitate to order a used book again.
It is a gift for my brother in Europe. I thought it was in great condition and the price was right!

Arun Gandhi, born in 1934, is the fifth grandson of Mohandas K. Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi. It's a very good little book. I enjoyed it. It was more autobiographical than anything else - not a whole lot you can take away from it, but a few things here and there, small tidbits that will definitely stay with you. I found out about this book from a friend overseas whose country (the Philippines) does not have Amazon shipping. He asked me to buy it for him and send it, which I did. After reading a bit of it, I decided to buy a copy for myself. I don't remember how much I paid, I think it was about $12-15, but the jacket says $24.00...overpriced. Arun Ghandi has had a most interesting life, thanks mostly to being a Ghandi. And like his 'Bapuji', he is a true humanitarian. A lesson for us all.
Reading this book has caused me to reflect on my daily thoughts and actions. I now actively use anger as energy to create a kinder environment for myself and others.

I saw Arun Gandhi in person and picked up this book because of it. I have already given it to others to read because I don't want it sitting on my shelf. It needs to be out there in the world being read by others.
This is an amazing little book with a HUGE message. It is a book that we can keep going back to in order to fuel our resolve to "BE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO SEE IN THE WORLD". KUDOS to Mr. Gandhi for delivering this important message in such a beautiful, poignant way.

I did not understand Gandhi's philosophies at all b efore reading this. Forgiveness and anger were difficult for me. it was a significant enlightenment.
