Husband and wife team, Manuel and Emily Casanova have written a very interesting and informative work integrating a brief history of autism with it's biology--both neuroscience and genetics. Gives a good overview of arcane research for the layperson. Stuff about Transcranial magnetic stimulation, various mutations associated with autism, some interesting observations on the neuroscience of autism and some other good stuff. recommended.

This book provides an examination of the latest research on autism for the student of autism or those who have a connection to autism and wish to learn more about it. From Kanner and Rimland through the latest genetic, biological, and neurological research, Defining Autism provides a broad overview of co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, ADHD, anxiety, Intellectual Disability (ID), among other neurologically related disorders. Accordingly, anyone who wishes to get a more holistic perspective of Autism Spectrum Disorder will benefit from reading this book.

In the past couple of decades, autism has become a highly politicized condition. Many neurodiversity advocates assert that autism is part of their personal identity, and any attempt to treat or cure their autism would eliminate who they are. By contrast, many autism parents and other autistics advocate for medical treatments and cures. Defining Autism mainly focuses on the biology of autism, exploring the history, genetics, and environmental factors of autism.
