When I was a student in Drew's classes, I had no idea that he had to work so hard to get this position at the University of Cincinnati. I never really thought much about it, or how colleges function, but I more or less assumed that he was just the obvious choice when the department needed a new professor.And as this book explains, he was the obvious choice, but only because he had properly marketed himself to the appropriate department and worked long and hard towards his goal of becoming a professor.And in true Drew fashion, he gives practical advice on how you can do the same thing, too.

If your desired result is to transition to a college professor role, Drew Boyd explains the preparation, effort, and abilities required to achieve that goal. His experience provides insight and perspective not always visible from those on the outside looking into the university environment. Testimonials from others--from a variety of fields and areas of expertise--show how others have also made the transition. His advice on how to network, market yourself, and prepare are applicable to any career-changing pursuit, not just into a teaching assignment. I recommended reading this book even if the switch is a far off dream so you can start the preparation today.

Fantastic guide on how to make the transition from working in the corporate world to teaching at the university level. This book is an enjoyable read and has many great examples of how to plan and then implement a move into academia. I especially liked the personal anecdotes and stories. If you know someone who is thinking of teaching later in his or her life...I highly recommend this book.
