A friend recommended this haggadah to me and I eagerly ordered ten copies. My husband is inviting his pastor and the pastor's family to the seder. I began to look through the pages, and found myself thinking "uh-oh." If I just invited my own lefty friends it would be fine, but an illustration showing a woman demonstrating for abortion rights is unsettling. I certainly support abortion rights, but I don't know if I want to have an argument about it at the seder table. An illustration portraying the Jews' various enemies shows an awful lot of people carrying crosses. While I have no argument with the fact that many Christians persecuted Jews, I wonder if this illustration would lead to meaningful discussion, or just make Gentile guests uncomfortable. I guess what bothers me the most is an illustration at the end of the book that shows a red-headed dude with sunglasses (everyone has sunglasses, and s***-eating grins) entering the gates of Jerusalem, riding a white donkey and flashing a peace sign. I think he is supposed to represent the Messiah. As a progressive Jew, I don't hold that the Messiah is an actual human being, but rather that it is up to us to usher in a Messianic age. The illustration invites comparisons to Jesus, which is fine by me, but it's a little out of my pay grade to argue with a pastor. There is a fine line between insult and appeasement; this haggadah is certainly going to be discussed, but it may not be employed!
I try, each year, to find some new insight, comment, or voice to make our Seder not just a repetition of the traditional text. This year, this was my new source and it's a real winner. It has the entire traditional text plus explanations of things I didn't know - and I've read a lot - plus information on customs from other communities, and, of course as advertised, comments about every subject touched on in the Haggadah from many sources ranging from Mark Twain to Rabbi Joseph Solevechik to fascinating modern voices you might not know but will appreciate. Filled with lighthearted illustrations that fit perfectly. You COULD use that at the seder, but I recommend spending the time to read it first and selecting some of its content for your seder. Should be a good source for several years.
This was a wonderful addition to my Passover celebrations this year. I co-led 2 seders (one for 9 people and one for 90) and found plenty of fresh, rich material to share with participants on both nights. I also highly recommend Noah Zion's "A Different Night" haggadah. If you don't own it, I would buy that one before this one. The contemporary perspectives in this one are great, but I think it's also valuable to incorporate traditional commentaries, and Zion does a great job of choosing good ones in the other haggadah.
This is a great haggadah to read. To use at a Seder? Maybe not so much, unless you have children whose minds wander, and if you don't mind their skipping around the book and reading.We encountered the "A Night to Remember" haggadah at a community seder at a Jewish Community Center. At home, we use the old yellow-and-reds; they are nostalgic, if nothing else, and we own about two dozen of them.During the community seder, I was fascinated by this haggadah, and afterwards bought a copy so I could read it properly. (We have dozens of different ones that we have purchased to read, vs. using at the seder.)This one is VERY contemporary and progressive. Lots of stories about social justice and tie-ins to recent events. The book is nicely done, with high production values, cute illustrations, and reading broken up into little boxes and bites. If you want to learn how to have a maror eating contest, this is the haggadah for you! It's also very strong on gender equality, including illustrations of women, as well as men, wearing kippot.This is a wonderful haggadah. I think it's too "busy" for a traditional seder, but it's a wonderful book to read as part of the run-up to the seder, or as a book to give young folks if you don't mind if they read quietly instead of participating.Note that the authors, Noam Zion and Mishael Zion, are at the Shalom Hartmann Institute in Jerusalem - a wonderful source of scholarship and inspiration. I've never met them, but have learned from many of their colleagues.

This is a VERY short book and really only qualifies as a long article or a pamphlet. It was only 23 pages on my tiny iPad mini screen. I wasn't expecting a lengthy book for a $2.99 price tag but I was hoping for more in depth information.The book contains some great advice on how to approach remodeling an RV, Trailer, or camper. It was inspiring to see how one could avoid the high cost of a new RV by purchasing a used one for one-tenth the cost and then renovating it yourself. All of the examples are for a travel trailer, though it would apply just as well to a motor home. There is nothing about updating the exterior; this strictly covers the interior look of an RV. There is also nothing about replacing mechanical or electrical components. Again, this is a book all about updating the LOOK of the RV.The information is presented from the standpoint of a project manager. There are very few details on HOW to actually do the improvement; this book would be better had with some step-by-step procedures. It describes how to do things in general and gives you some tips but doesn't show how to do them. The assumption is that you will figure it out based on what specific solution you choose. There is underlying assumption that you can choose colors and patterns, sew, paint, and do basic handyman work.What this book is not:Nearly all improvements described are surface-level stuff; it doesn't describe how to make repairs. There are no carpentry tips or tricks. It does speak to replacing moldy walls but doesn't go into detail on how. The assumption is that you have carpentry skills or are willing to hire someone who does.The example provided is a single travel trailer. There are not multiple examples to give you ideas; just the one trailer that the author remodeled.This book speaks to being modern and stylish but provides no guidance on what that actually means. Not everyone has the eye of an interior decorator and this book provides nothing to help in this area. The assumption is that you know the look you are trying to achieve. The pictures have some good examples, but I expected additional examples and why you might choose one over the other.The book provides options for upgrades such as updating the floor, but speaks little to the pros and cons of each floor solution. It is clearly in favor of vinyl floor planks, and mentions four options such as peel and stick tiles. I expected some detail on comparing these other options rather than just picking vinyl plank floors and providing detail on just that. For example, I have using the peel and stick tiles and they were problematic because they are so easy to get misaligned. They are so sticky that it is hard to correct a mistake once made. Also any gaps between tiles, however slight, will trap dirt and debris which is impossible to remove. This is my experience of using one of the options they mentioned, but I was hoping for some wisdom like this on all of the options.The costs quoted for materials and replacement items are not accurate. This book implies that costs are much lower than they actually are. I bought an old truck camper and my wife and I spent several days updating it so I have some idea on what materials cost. We bought material for curtains on sale, and we priced out new cushions (which are VERY expensive), among other things. The cost of lots of little things really added up but this book makes it sound as if is is inexpensive.I was hoping that the solutions would be more RV centric rather than just general "home improvement" solutions. Sometimes generic home improvement solutions work, but most of the time they don't work in an RV. There is no mention of where to obtain certain materials for some of the upgrades. I know from experience that what works in a house will not work in an RV. You can't just go to Lowes or Home Depot for a replacement faucet for example; you have to get an RV faucet with RV fittings. If you are replacing a section of wall that is moldy, what type of material do you buy? The instructions in this book overlook many of these details that if provided would preclude you from having to drive all over town to get what you need.Although the information in this guide was useful, I think it would be better priced at one dollar for the amount information it provides.
Includes photos of the remodel of a 36' standard RV that the authors undertook giving it a nice refresh. They had suggestions for the flooring, mold situations, counters, upgrading fixtures, redoing cabinets and more. Not a mechanical fix book, but more of a facelift for a aging RV. This is exactly what I was looking for with my 1994 Bounder which is somewhat shabby and sad. The suggestions are good, and I will be using them along with photos of gypsy wagon interiors for decorating ideas. Very good.
You learn all you need in the sample - the best new flooring is peel and stick vinyl plank flooring. The rest of the book is so general it defies reason to ask people to spend money on it. Don't waste your time (only takes about 5 min to read...) or money
I found this book full of good practical ideas. I've bought used rv's and wished I had this book. I would have been more brave about making improvements.
This book shows you a very basic renovation of an RV. It's helpful if you know nothing about what materials to use the where buy them. However, it doesn't show the step by step instructions on how to actually do the renovations.
This was a great idea for a book. However it lacks details. There are only a few pictures. I think there are five total.

At any rate, you can trust this review because I bought and paid for the book with my own hard earned money.Succinctly, if you liked the Little House books, you will LOVE this book. First off, the book itself is gorgeous! I am a hardcore bibliophile. I love the look, the texture, the feel, and yes, even the smell, of real books. This book is over the top in excellence. The size of the book is great, big but not too big. The paper is thick and creamy. The text is crisp and readable. The pictures are reproduced--well, I don't know how I am supposed to say this, but they are bright and bold where they should be, yet subdued and gentle where they need to be.The amount of information in this book is staggering, and yet it is quite engaging. As you may have read in the information given about the book, each chapter is a different location where Laura or Almanzo lived. The layout of the book takes you from site to site while telling you all about the land and native plants and trees and the people and animals that lived in the area before, well, before white people came and "tamed" the land. (That part was good and bad, so we won't go there.) The illustrations are stellar! I really liked the fact that she showed so many of the plants that Laura was familiar with, neatly integrated into the story line. No flipping back and forth pages and pages. She talks about varities of violets or roses, and bam, there is the photo. It is filled with photos, period illustrations, and illustrations from both Helen Sewell (and Boyle?) and Garth Williams. I found it absolutely enchanting. Even though I have read so much about Laura Ingalls Wilder, I still enjoyed the book. And to show you what a big geek I am, when I saw a picture of the cover of the Big Green animal book that the Ingalls had, I had an AHA moment. A few quick google searches later and there it was--free in public domain for downloading. So now I have my very own digital copy on my ipad, just waiting to be perused at my leisure--just don't tell my husband!Bottom line, if you love Laura Ingalls Wilder you will love this book, and I want to say personally to Marta McDowell--Well done, and thank you very much. You have produced a beautiful treasure of a book.
I am a Laura Ingalls Wilder fanatic. I have an amazing collection of all things Laura from many biographies about the author LIW, to the books that she gave life to, to the tv shows that she inspired. I have visited several homesites and my goal is to make it to all of them. That information is just to let you know that I may not (or may!) be an expert, but I do know some things about the subject of this book. What I don't know about at all? The gardening, climate, and plants that grow in these territories. I am blessed that the author Marta McDowell does! This book is a piece of art! I am so pleased to own this volume, "The World Of Laura Ingalls Wilder". This is a big hard covered book, with lovely thick and glossy pages. The pictures are just gorgeous. The first two times I picked up the book was just to stare at the pages in amazement. But the book isn't all aesthetic. McDowell has done her research and it shows. It tells us about the crops/flowers/climate and general environment over each of the primary locations of the novels. It is set up in order based on where Laura lived at a particular time period. So the first section is all about the Big Woods of Wisconsin. She touches on things such as what it must have meant for Ma to leave her beautiful garden there to start all over again in Kansas. She also mixes in bits about her own past and the memories associated with certain plants/flowers. This is just a gem. As long as publishers and authors can continue to bring new and exciting Laura Ingalls Wilder content to the world, I am very happy to buy and read them.
2017 is the 150th Birthday of Laura Ingalls Wilder and there are a profusion of blogs, posts, and books out or forthcoming. THe World of Laura Ingalls Wilder is part of the trend. It's a nice book full of descriptions of the flora, fauna, and terrain of the regions Wilder resided. One of the aspects I liked the best were the author's interspersed vignettes of her own family's garden, flowers, and produce harvests. I found the charts listing all the plants grown at Rocky Ridge derived from Rose Wilder Lane's journals, diaries, family letters, and other sources one of the most original aspects. However, as far as any new revelations, the author shares the same information found in the bibliography of Wilder's life and works. The ARC I read from NetGalley had a page for photo credits, but it was blank, however all photo credits were listed in the copy I just received today.
I thought this might just be a boring book about plants . . . it wasn't. It's probably the most beautifully laid out Laura book EVER - it's visually stunning, and contains a wealth of fascinating information, including a lot of history. Very pleasantly surprised! Well done Marta!

I started using DK Travel about eight years ago. I have traveled out of the country at least once a year after that. These are so superior to the other travel books, that they are all I buy!. They have lavish pictures and illustrations and make you very aware of the things you should not miss. The book is organized to answer all of your travel questions, from what to pack to how to change your money. Other travelers have seen my books with me, and have immediately bought them, too.
Love these books! I have several countries. They show what others only tell. Obviously check updates on hotels and restaurants, but this is a good starting point. Oh: The "Spanish section" is not Chilean...it's just castellano. Do a little homework. I lived in Chile and this was a thorough for the size of the book.
This, along with a Lonely Planet book, were our go-to's when traveling in SE Asia on our own. For the most part, information was current and reliable, with information on a broad range of tourist-related matters....everything from shopping to history to art to religion. Beautiful photos and line drawings of architectural sites, in particular.
Very practical travel guide: you get very quickly a good overview of places of cultural or practical interest. The way the countries are presented is especially good: regional maps with places of interest refered by numbers that you find easily in the following text. The texts themselves are neither too long, nor too short. Also nice pictures, which may help you to decide whether you should visit a place or not.
We always purchase one of these Eyewitness guide books before we travel somewhere, and we have a stack of them. We are never disappointed with them. This book covers a lot of territory and does a good job of preparing you for a visit.
Good book, but I wish it was a separate book on each country and went into more in-depth detail. It helped with our trip to Cambodia but was not essential.
I'm mixed on my star rating here. I really like DK Eyewitness Travel books, but was backpacking though SE Asia and these books were just way to heavy to carry. Had to return them without using them....
DK is the perfect travel guide, don't travel anywhere without it.

Nice big size but the story isn't really a story. I thought it would have some stories from the smaller books in it, but instead there are huge images and just bios on each of the dogs, etc. Nice for any little Paw Patrol fan but the lack of actual story will not keep me engaged to read it over and over again as a parent.
If you own the book "Pups to the Rescue" do not buy this book. My 3 year old son was so disappointed when we found out this is almost the exact same story with just a few words changed here and there. I'm going to return this book if I can.
There is NO story, only a description of each pup, Ryder & the lookout. I wish we could have seen the book before buying it. My 2 yr old Paw Patrol obsessed son is so disappointed. We bought the Pups to the Rescue book and the words are the same as this book but at least that book has stickers included... and it was half the price of this one! Don't buy this book, buy the other one with stickers or The Itty-Bitty Kitty Rescue book (my son LOVES it and we are getting ready to read it now)!!!
Bogus content. Big Book of Paw Patrol doesn't make me think it is going to be just a 'meet the characters' intro without a single adventure or story. If I saw this in the store, I'd have flipped through and known better but it is misleading, the description online. Buy one of the other soft covers on here or small golden books that have actual series episodes or stories. This is like zero content and if your kids KNOW the characters they don't need it.
It's not a story book. I thought it had stories from the paw patrol episodes like the Little Red Rescue book collection which my son loves or the story time collection of the Thomas the Tank Engine! This is just a big book introducing the characters. Not a story book and very thin! We don't like it at all!
I was surprised to find this on my Kindle, then realized my 3 year old grandson had bought it while I wasn't looking! He loves Paw Patrol, and at $1.99, that's not much to make him happy. I will be shutting the internet off before I leave him alone with it again, though.
The printed book was put into the binding upside-down. I was going to give this item as a gift at a kids party but I’m embarrassed to do so now after I opened it up.
My son wanted this so I got it for him. HE loves it - but it is just basically a list of the characters and what they do which I'm not impressed about. It's also not that big of a book being it's titled "The Big book of paw patrol"
This book is mainly just descriptions of the characters. I thought it would be a few stories, but it's just a larger little golden book. The thickness is about the same as the little golden books. Cute book, but I was imagining it'd be a thicker book. If I was purchasing again I would buy another actual little golden book, so I'd get a better story. Though the price and shipping was very good!

The public bath that it recommended has closed! And we only found this out after an all day trek looking for it. Oh - why didn't we check whether it was open before we went? We did! We asked our concierge at the Park Hyatt who "confirmed". What was their confirmation process? We assume they just looked at this guide (which they also have in each room for you to buy - though we already had one).
This isn't a book. It is more like a pamphlet. Double sided accordion fold extremely small print. I will be returning it!
