Amazon.com Review
Bill Bryson has made a living out of traveling and then writing about it. In The Lost Continent he re-created the road trips of his childhood; in Neither Here nor There he retraced the route he followed as a young backpacker traversing Europe. When this American transplant to Britain decided to return home, he made a farewell walking tour of the British countryside and produced Notes from a Small Island. Once back on American soil and safely settled in New Hampshire, Bryson once again hears the siren call of the open road--only this time it's a trail. The Appalachian Trail, to be exact. In A Walk in the Woods Bill Bryson tackles what is, for him, an entirely new subject: the American wilderness. Accompanied only by his old college buddy Stephen Katz, Bryson starts out one March morning in north Georgia, intending to walk the entire 2,100 miles to trail's end atop Maine's Mount Katahdin. If nothing else, A Walk in the Woods is proof positive that the journey is the destination. As Bryson and Katz haul their out-of-shape, middle-aged butts over hill and dale, the reader is treated to both a very funny personal memoir and a delightful chronicle of the trail, the people who created it, and the places it passes through. Whether you plan to make a trip like this one yourself one day or only care to read about it, A Walk in the Woods is a great way to spend an afternoon. --Alix Wilber

From Publishers Weekly
Returning to the U.S. after 20 years in England, Iowa native Bryson decided to reconnect with his mother country by hiking the length of the 2100-mile Appalachian Trail. Awed by merely the camping section of his local sporting goods store, he nevertheless plunges into the wilderness and emerges with a consistently comical account of a neophyte woodsman learning hard lessons about self-reliance. Bryson (The Lost Continent) carries himself in an irresistibly bewildered manner, accepting each new calamity with wonder and hilarity. He reviews the characters of the AT (as the trail is called), from a pack of incompetent Boy Scouts to a perpetually lost geezer named Chicken John. Most amusing is his cranky, crude and inestimable companion, Katz, a reformed substance abuser who once had single-handedly "become, in effect, Iowa's drug culture." The uneasy but always entertaining relationship between Bryson and Katz keeps their walk interesting, even during the flat stretches. Bryson completes the trail as planned, and he records the misadventure with insight and elegance. He is a popular author in Britain and his impeccably graceful and witty style deserves a large American audience as well. Copyright 1998 Reed Business Information, Inc.

It has been twenty years since Bill Bryson, a writer originally hailed from a small town in Iowa, fell in love with Great Britain where people are delighted in small pleasures, called strangers “Love,†and orderly wait on lines in public without peevishness. So much so that he has even married one. Now it is high time that Bryson returns to the States along the lines of Odyssey, who returned home in Ithaca twenty years after the decade-long Trojan War and another decade of travails. In retrospection of the memories collected on his beloved adopted homeland, Bryson decides to take a valedictory jaunt around the island small but big enough to nurture him with a wealth of culture and a bounty of humanity. And he does it on public transportation and by hiking along with his trademark razor-sharp wits, intractably keen intelligence, and his usual touchy-feely way of observing people and things that either irk or pique him. All of it comes to fruition in this highly amusing and genially forthright travel memoir. You will be surprised to find out that the British think that the cereals are their invention. You will be overawed by the ubiquitous hedgegrows dated back to Anglo-Saxon times embroidering on the British landscape. Bryson will also take us for a ride in a London cab driven by an affably jocular cabbie who has to pass the Knowledge Test to memorize almost everywhere in the City of London. But London is not his demarcation of traveling. Bryson will further come along with you to Bournemouth, Exeter, Liverpool, which is his favorite city, Manchester, and even up north to Scotland all by train or coach, and by walking. With his truculent feistiness, irrepressible inquisitiveness, and scintillating sense of humor fabulously ingrained in his choice of the apropos words and jovial descriptions devoid of malice, Bryson is a cool cicerone, and your excursion will never be a bore. The book seems to be primarily aimed for British readers who might be curious about what a foreigner would think of them and their country as a whole. In that regard, Bryson’s words are predominately British in the sense that the words and expressions he uses in the narrative are familiar to the British. For example, “bank holidays,†“coach,†“lorry,†or “Sainsbury’s†are peculiar to the British ways of life. But this kind of cultural barrier is kindly tackled by Bryson by providing you with glossary of the British terms in the end of the book.I have read other books by Bryson because of the same reason that induced me to select this book: his story-telling like narration is very appealing to me with his proverbial witticism smeared in every word he employs. He may appear a grumpy American man, but he has a heart to feel and see milk of human kindness in every quotidian thing or nondescript person by using the most appropriate words in wonderfully lucid expressions. There is a charm in his writing that will make you an admirer of his writings, and this book is no exception. It is Bryson’s long love letter to the small island he has fallen for head over heels with sincerity and loyalty with kisses and promise to come back to her.
Great book if you love people who love themselves to an extreme. Also a great read if you hate the United States, especially southerners. Perfect for the "open-minded, progressive" types who look down their noses at anyone who doesn't behave and think exactly like themselves. Also, a great gift for anyone who likes books that pretend to be about people doing something, but then are really just about quitting doing that thing before they really get started. Here's a good example of the writing, "See, the Army Corps of Engineers aren't really good at building. One time this thing that they built broke. Moving on...I like Great Britain because there aren't that many Americans there. See, I really hate myself, so I take it out on all other Americans instead if just looking in the mirror and admitting that I am a sad sack."
Right. Well this book completely derailed my reading list for the summer. I was supposed to be catching up on Criminal Justice texts and memorizing terms from Barron's Law Dictionary... Instead, I purchased Notes from a Small Island and things went out of control from there. It is literally the first time in my life that reading a book made me laugh out loud and uncontrollably, to TEARS. This gem was highly recommended by English friends as a must-read before I make the move to the UK for my year of study abroad this fall. I obliged. Not even halfway through the book, I decided to order more of his books right away in order to have them ready when I finished with this one. That is how my Bill Bryson binge began. Currently I am on my third book (by order of what arrives in the mail first) called A Short History of Nearly Everything.Bryson is merciless in his observations of British towns and the British in general, but it's all in the spirit of that endearingly cynical, self-deprecating, quintessential British humour. (see what I did there?!) His way of writing puts you at ease and it's like a cross between travel guide, government & history lesson and stand up comedy, as Bryson loves to go off on barely relevant and hilarious tangents. You never get the sense that he is trying too hard or being pretentious, either. A bonus is the glossary he provides in the back of the book for British words like "dual carriageway" and "naff."The fact that it was recommended to me by English and Welsh friends is testament to the authenticity of Bryson's observations and his comedic genius. Seriously recommend this read if you're an Anglophile or just enjoy a good, fun read.
This is the book that made Bill Bryson's latest publication, "The Road to Little Dribbling," possible. After living in the UK for a number of years, Bryson decided to take a fresh look at his adopted country and travels throughout England, Wales, and Scotland before he relocated his family to the U.S. for a period of time -- and the result is "Notes from a Small Island." This year, with the publication of "Little Dribbling," he goes back to the places he saw in "Notes." Both books are worth the read -- and both give you plenty of laugh-out-load moments, as well as many moments of thoughtful reflection on being human, as well as life in the UK. Having read "Little Dribbling" first, I came at "Notes" with a genuine curiosity about what his original insights would be like -- and how his perspective had changed. In addition to gaining an appreciation of these qualities, it was interesting to see how Bill Bryson had grown as a person and author. All in all a rewarding purchase -- and a great antidote to those times when daily life gets a bit too heavy to handle.

This book is, first of all, hilarious! It's pretty dang accurate, too; only "problem" is that it's not that good if you like small, intricate, detailed pages like I do.
Very life like photos almost like a photograph of star mugshots. Will be back for next one when public.
Fun to color!
All pages and images are clear with bolded lines. Funny coloring book
Bought this with coloring pencils for a white elephant gift... it was a hoot!!
The mugshots are amazing but not having too much fun coloring the teeny tiny flowers and stuff in the background. Still four stars though. Not my fave but it's still pretty awesome.
My brother loved it
Love itâ¤â¤

"[O]ffers an engrossing envoi that contextualizes this prince's little-known legacy....Sure-footed and novelistic....[O]ffers fresh research while also soliciting a broad popular readership."--John Gagné, The Historian"[A]n enviably accessible and entertaining prose style...Recommended."--CHOICE"[A] gripping narrative...It is impossible to finish this medieval melodrama without thinking that it would make a riveting series for an enterprising TV producer."--The Economist "Fletcher's first book, The Divorce of Henry VIII, was a study of Vatican intrigue that demonstrated her ability to use rarely accessed Italian archives to create a gripping and original account of a well-worn subject. Here she has used the same skills to even greater effect, creating a compelling portrait of a forgotten man--himself both brutal and brutalised--once at the very heart of the Renaissance world order. Her narrative follows the extraordinary arc of Alessandro's life closely, but also uses it to illuminate the bloody opulence of Renaissance Italian politics in all its squalid, operatic glory." --The Financial Times "Nothing in sixteenth century history is more astonishing to our era than the career of Alessandro de' Medici. His story, told by an exact and fluent historian, challenges our preconceptions. Catherine Fletcher's eye for the skewering detail makes the citizens of renaissance Florence live again: courtesans and cardinals, artists and assassins." --Hilary Mantel, author of Wolf Hall "Fletcher displays an excellent comprehension of the Medici family and Renaissance political maneuvering. The connections between ruling and royal families, intermarriages, feuds, and assassinations can boggle the mind, but she carefully separates friends from enemies... Medici fans will expand their awareness of the family's broad reach, and Renaissance students will discover Machiavelli's models for The Prince." --Kirkus "This is an accomplished and original account of an extraordinary and much misrepresented episode in Italian history. Catherine Fletcher provides a newly sympathetic portrait of a monarch whose rule in Florence was even more unlikely than Henry VII's presence on the English throne." --Diarmaid MacCulloch, author of The Reformation"In this revelatory work, Fletcher rescues [Allessandro de' Medici] from the well-known caricature his opponents manufactured while revealing his strengths and weaknesses as an often populist Medici prince...Throughout this compelling narrative, de' Medici's unlikely story and extraordinary life finally feel revealed as Fletcher gives him a welcome new complex legacy." --Publishers Weekly, Fall 2016 "Top Ten Picks for History" "Fletcher paints a perceptive picture of mixed loyalties, jealousy and duplicity... The most revealing arguments of the book regard Alessandro's ethnicity and what it did, or more importantly did not, signify to contemporaries. Fletcher's book is extensively researched and, like the best stories, a compelling read." --Historical Novels Review"A scintillating book that glisters and gleams with stabbings, poisonings, adultery and intrigue-and a startling reminder of how visceral and dangerous Renaissance Florence was. The drama of events is perfectly complemented by careful scholarship and lucid writing. This is everything a historical biography should be." --Ian Mortimer, author of The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England "Packed with intrigue...Fletcher describes with cool menace the plotting and politicking that dominated Alessandro's rule... brought splendidly to life in this excellent book." --Dan Jones, Sunday Times (UK) "Like a detective, Fletcher interrogates her witnesses...But it is among the detailed records of Alessandro's wardrobe-keepers that she finds her treasure...These lend her narrative a sensuous vividity." --Frances Wilson, Sunday Telegraph (UK) "As gripping as Othello... Fletcher's approach is scholarly yet dramatic, immersed in Renaissance glamour." --The Spectator "Bold, Breathless and full of suspense." -- Daisy Dunn, The Times (UK)"Catherine Fletcher is entirely at ease amid the Renaissance world and its archival resources, and her details, particularly those involving dress, feasting, and ceremonial, are generously deployed in the work of recovering a neglected episode of Florentine history." --Literary Review "Fletcher recounts [Alessandro de' Medici's] life, and even more so the times, in clear and often vivid prose with an eye for interesting detail." --Los Angeles Review of Books "The Black Prince is a dark and murderous tale that is exceptionally well-told. It leaves the reader rushing from page to page wanting more."--New York Journal of Books "Fletcher's research is impeccable... and her attention to detail proves excellent."--Washington Free Beacon "An absorbing tale of betrayal and deadly political alliances during the Renaissance."--Washington Independent Review of Books "Alessandro de' Medici's life in sixteenth-century Italy speaks volumes about the emerging category of race. In the time since his death, Alessandro has been accorded a dual identity: as the black tyrant who put a violent end to the republican liberty of Florence and as the first person of black African ancestry to rule a major city-state during the Renaissance. Both stories settle on race as definitive of Alessandro's historical significance, notwithstanding the fact that a clear definition of race cannot be had." -- Renaissance Quarterly "With meticulous attention to detail, in The Black Prince of Florence Catherine Fletcher eloquently sets the life of Alessandro against the backdrop of papal power and crisis of dynastic legitimacy."--Renaissance and Reformation

This book thoroughly covered the familial struggle for succession among the potential candidates for the first Medici Duke, an honor made open to them by the circumstances that re-installed them to power in Florence and by virtue of their then powerful Medici Pope. The author's thesis that the African/Italian illegitimate son of a previous Medici Pope was always considered a prime candidate for the family's elevated post is proven with many facts, some suppositions and a lot of anecdotes. The thesis looses some credibitlity because of this constancy It is as if the author can't believe the reader believes her argument. There are also far too many data points to back up this constant defense, making the argument tiresome. A good editor was needed but otherwise a good exploration of the brief life and fame of Allesandro Medici, may he rest in more peace than life afforded him.
Really poor writing and an endless and unnecessary trail of forgetable names and doubtful guess work. Let's face it this guy had a dull life and no one has cared to write about him, but made up possible stories and then hedged the guess work.
Great information.
I spent a considerable amount of time in Florence in my youth and was really interested in learning more about this Medici. I was disappointed. I did learn every item listed in his wardrobe, how many and what kind of attendants he had in his entourage when he traveled and what they served their honored guests at meals. Long on details and short on action. Lots of Papal intrigues, child brides and poisoning a of course. I did learn a lot about the man but the read was a slow crawl.
Interesting topic, but really more of a New Yorker article. Not much known about his early life.
Very informative for me. I read this then moved on to Brunelleschi's Domeand other books dealing with theMedici's history.
Catherine Fletcher, in "The Black Prince of Florence," brings sixteenth-century Italy to life, while at the same time raising pertinent questions for the twenty-first century on the immutability of race.Alessandro di Medici was the illegitimate son of the last of the line of Lorenzo the Magnificent. When his father died of syphilis at the age of twenty-six, Alessandro and a cousin from a cadet branch of the family were raised out of obscurity by powerful relatives (two of them Popes) to be groomed to take over the family's leading role in the Florentine Republic. Alessandro, being the younger, was destined for the Church, but his cousin was made a cardinal in his place, and the task of governing Florence fell to Alessandro.Alessandro's life was short, like his father he died at twenty-six although in his case Alessandro was murdered by a jealous cousin, but magnificent. He became the Duke of Florence, married the daughter of Charles V, the Hapsburg Holy Roman Emperor, and enjoyed wealth and power, plus a close connection to the Holy See. Looked at through the lens of the twenty-first century it seems incredible that a black man, reportedly the child of a slave or servant, could have risen so high in Renaissance society. One of the most intriguing things about this book is Fletcher's discussion of Alessandro's heritage. In Renaissance Italy race did not have the same impact which we know. Alessandro's low birth was much more important, and in the scheme of things not that important once his family decided to back him, than his race. It seems that race, although noticed, had not yet become the significant marker which it carries in our own day. Fletcher's insightful musings on this topic make for one of the most interesting parts of this history."The Black Prince of Florence" is well worth reading, you won't look at Renaissance Italy in quite the same way as you did before.I received an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley for my honest opinion
Meticulously researched; seriously, yet unconventionally analytical; judiciously articulated. This work is a must for any scholar intent on serious examination of the Renaissance as diverse and globally informed conceptual space. Europe becomes more than our comfortable clichés; the world, as a whole, becomes contributor those things we regard as solely our own.

Review
“At heart Walls is a wonderful yarn-spinner…This is a page-turner, built for hammock or beach reading.” (Karen Valby Entertainment Weekly)“Walls is adept at steeping her characters in some intense, old-fashioned drama…The Silver Star is a lovely, moving novel with an appealing narrator in Bean.” (Carmela Ciuraru USA Today)“Walls writes with easy assurance about Liz and Bean, proving in fiction as she did in her memoir, The Glass Castle, that she knows children’s hearts—as well as the evil that can lurk in the hearts of grown-ups.” (Parade)“Walls writes with the paired-down incisiveness of a memoirist looking for the significance of every incident, but it’s the way she draws Bean, so strong even in the face of all the additional challenges that come with her age, gender, and innocence, that will make this book a hit with readers.” (Nicholas Mancusi The Daily Beast)Walls has written yet another gripping story of a courageous and sensible girl surviving the adults around her.” (Holly Silva St. Louis Post-Dispatch)“Told with a balanced, yet whimsical, voice of insight and awareness...[The Silver Star] is set during the Nixon ‘70s and Vietname War, and the author adeptly evokes the tumultuous era in the narrative without letting it overwhelm the primary thread of Bean’s coming-of-age adventures.” (S. Kirk Walsh San Francisco Chronicle)“Absorbing…” (People)“A polished work of fiction…Engaging…Fans will find echoes of her coruscating family chronicle that first struck a chord with readers in 2005, but The Silver Star is the novel of a more confident, mature and calculating writer…[an] atmospheric bildungsroman of adolescent passage, changing times and bent but unbroken family bonds.” (Jane Sumner Dallas Morning News)“Great writing…An absorbing, unsentimental tale of childhood.” (Chelsea Cain The New York Times Book Review)“A great spirit comes through The Silver Star…Jeannette Walls knows how to make characters pop off the page (and tear your heart out in the process.)” (Angela Mattano Campus Circle Magazine)

I read Silver Star after reading Half Broke Horses and The Glass Castle, both of which were based in the life and family of the author and were jarringly authentic (and I loved them). The Silver Star seemed like a retelling of Walls' story, but with happier circumstances, an attempt to heal the bleak and really heartless neglect that her parents actually provided with a story where the neglect was escapable. The free spirited father of the Glass Castle becomes the free spirited but dead father with the warm and loving family who sheltered Bean (Jean), and the neglectful, narcissistic mother was counter balanced by the well meaning if out of touch uncle. The author grants her young characters, Liz and Bean a reprieve that Jeannette Walls and her siblings never had. Their lives are still difficult. Bean's older sister Liz suffers, but in the end the villain dies and and Bean and her sister are accepted into the community as Jeannette never was as a child in The Glass Castle. Walls doesn't disregard the bleak reality of these children's lives, but she smooths away the jagged edges so that there is an hospitable place for them to grow and flourish. The wonder, though, is that Jeannette Walls herself lived to tell a kinder tale than the one into which she was born.
I felt so bad for the girls and yet so humbled. They were given a mother who wasn't capable of being one and yet managed to thrive. Serious situations were shown with pragmatism: merely as a part of growing up and a lesson learned (sometimes a hard one). The girls were so different in personality and appearance and yet supported each other without fail. Their mother was simply incapable of being that and as I wanted to not like her but she wasn't unlikeable. She was simply incredibly flawed and never should have been a parent. Wonderful prose. And I sat up and read it late at night and that the hallmark of a good book.
Dare I say I was thoroughly disappointed with this book? It feels sacrilegious to even type those words! I'm giving "The Silver Star" 2 stars, not because it's a total garbage book, but because I had higher expectations for this author. Taking that out of the equation, the book, alone, would be a 3-star.I'm sure, as most other people, I was looking forward to this next book by one of my favorite authors. "The Glass Castle" ranks in the Top 5 of my "favorite books of all time" category. Loved "Half Broke Horses," in which Walls created a believable (and interesting) fiction novel out of true family stories/memories. Both of her previous books are the kind that stick with you, which you recommend to others, and that you wish you'd never read....so you could read them all over again.I didn't realize that this was going to be a purely fictional story, so I had to get over that initial disappointment. But having read, "Half Broke Horses," I had no doubt Walls could write a great fiction novel. However, in this book the characters didn't resonate with me. I didn't root for any of them, which is DREADFUL when that even includes a girl who was assaulted. I knew every second that I was reading the book that it was exactly THAT....a fictional book. I didn't get lost in the characters, the storyline or in the author's style of writing. It was the storyline of a sophomoric author. An easy concept that's been done a zillion times before. A crazy mother, two sisters sticking together through the chaos of their lives, a life of town-hopping. So far, this is the plot of "Mermaids," correct? (To be honest if I had more time, I could probably dissect the whole book into separate movie plots). The characters were predictable, the storyline was predictable, and the outcome of every conflict was predictable. It became so dragged out and boring, by the time we got to the courtroom trial, I literally skipped to the end of that chapter just to confirm that it ended as I suspected it would. I didn't care about the trial and furthermore, I didn't want to risk reading about someone in the court room yelling, "The truth! You can't handle the truth!" Too many cliches in this book for my liking. All in all, I still believe Jeanette Walls is a better author than this and I hope she comes out with more books. I'm not giving up on her writing another winner in the future.
It's the summer of 1970, and sisters Liz and "Bean" Holladay are alone while their eccentric mother Charlotte takes some time away for herself.Although she's left the girls some money for a month or so, they are starting to get nervous as weeks pass without word from her. After all, Liz is 15 and Bean only 12, and neighbors are beginning to catch on. Not knowing what else to do, the sisters decide to leave California for Virginia -- and the uncle they last saw as babies.Once they arrive, they find Uncle Tinsley and his life not at all as they imagined. Yet little by little, the trio acclimates to a shared life.Yet even when Charlotte returns, it's clear that all is not well. She seems to have suffered some mental setbacks, and money is a huge issue as well. Worse, Uncle Tinsley refuses to acknowledge it, as the Holladays were one of the town's founding families.Overall, Walls sets up an intriguing premise, with complex characters and the potential for numerous rich storylines. Not only are their family secrets with which to contend, but there's also heated racial tension, as the two town high schools are finally to integrate in September. Yet Walls fails to delve into any of these stories as fully as she might, and what she does write lacks anything to make it stand apart from other similar-themed books. Having read The Glass Castle and Half Broke Horses, I feel the author is fully capable of much more, so this is especially disappointing.

How many times have groups of people said "So... uh... which idea is going to go forward, yours, mine or hers"?Doesn't that sound horrible? We all know that great collaboration is not consensus and it is not picking who's idea goes forward. It is the fantastic synergistic magic that happens when people can create and conflict in positive ways to create something new. There are so many books on collaboration. We use many of them in our Master of Design graduate program. Books like Patterson's Crucial Conversations, Rosenberg's Non-Violent Communication, Keltner's Power Paradox and any of Brene Brown's books provide insights into what contemporary collaboration and leadership is. None of those books, however, are written for designers. What the Sherwins have done is taken many of these powerful ideas, and translated them and built on them, and run them through their Sherwin's designification machine and published an excellent book for designers (and creative people) about how to turn groups into teams. This book is accessible from day one, and you could even flip to a page and try something out without a big commitment. I'd love to see this book in every designer's project space (and washroom) to help people help make the world more wonderful through design. And what a pleasure to write the first review!
David Sherwin and Mary Sherwin's book is a breath of fresh air on a fall morning as you sip a tea or coffee on a porch watching autumn leaves fall. Giving 6 stars isn't possible so, I purchased 5 copies to gift and anticipate needing more. The book tactically anchors in its methods and process something essential yet intangible that we design intentionally or intuitively at work every day - our relationships with folks on our team/s. Fun and no-nonsense, modular and comprehensive, its methods invite creative interpretation, AND they are immediately actionable. While particularly suited for designers, this book is open to anyone who wants to bring any team closer together and realize better outcomes for their organization. See the headline!

I purchased this book after being gifted, listening and liking the audio book and I couldn’t resist getting the eBook too. I really did like this anthology book of short stories of a party containing gods and humans in praise of Eros maybe it had to do with all the humanizations of the gods their powers at a party; which granted I enjoy reading about books about gods mixing with humans no matter what they were. The book was pretty erotic with very little as in terms of female characterizations but really this didn’t bother me the gods seemed to have more definition to their characters though. Sometimes I like to read books that are fun which this book totally is plus its short, hot and oh so naughty that left me smiling and blushing too!Becoming Persephone is the story of Drea and Hades which I really liked Drea though her sarcasm was refreshing I almost wanted her to keep letting Hades chase her longer. I kind of was annoyed with Hades he seemed so vague and snobby but maybe that’s the point he’s a god so he’s supposed to be a prick. Looking glass lover is the story of Tansy and Hypnos which was probably my favorite out of the three stories because I liked the idea of his power but his persona wasn’t so brash and he paid more attention to Tansy which I really liked. The last story of Pander, Coelus and Tinia was my least favorite it wasn’t so much the threesome at bothered me but I didn’t really like the characters for some strange reason. Coelus and Tinia seemed so cold, brittle and upset about the whole situation. Yes they worked together but the threesome seemed a little cold since their behavior was like that. Still I liked the story rated it four stars, can recommend it for a quick hot, risqué read and will definitely get more books from Ms. Avery (Stella Price).
A trio of best friends have been invited to a party in Greece in praise of the goddess, Eros where many gods will be in attendance. Drea, Pander and Tansy are in Greece to mourn the death of Amalia, the woman who was closest thing to a mother to them. The ladies were told that they were invited to the party because they possessed traits much of what the gods were looking for in a mate. The girls arrived and each was ‘pulled’ in her own direction. Drea meets Hades, the god of the underworld. Tansy meets Pander meets Hypnos, the god of sleep. Pander meets Coelus and Tinia, cousins, and gods of the skies. As the evening unfolds, the gods seduce each woman as they wish to determine if these women are their potential mates. I don’t want to give the endings away, but suffice it to say, these are three hot stories!!! Whew!!! Very cool story infused with mythology and passion!
wow! these stories were utterly fascinating. I really enjoyed the world the author has created. each story was short and sweet and absolutely wonderful but I would love to see more from this universe. if the short snippets are anything to go by, I would absolutely crave something longer and more detailed from this realm.a few typos and some misused your vs you're but the stories were so compelling I could overlook the mistakes. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys mythology based romances. mythology based tales are some of my absolute favorite types of stories and these three short stories definitely lived up to my ideals.
Picked this up because I love Greece. A fun, surprisingly excellent thought-out book. And so very steamy. I gobbled it down like candy.
This was a step outside of my former comfort zone. I don't usually read romance/erotica about gods and magick. I read this one. It is very well done. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I am recommending it.There are 3 erotic stories. The plots and characters are good, strong and engaging. The sex is hot! hot! hot!Yes, it is escapism but that's one strong reason many many people read. If it's one of your reasons for reading, and you like hot romance with a little magick.. READ THIS
Want some good clean fun?? Want the ever attentive kisses and touches of a god? To be caressed in the dreaming by a sexy dream God or chased after by the god of death himself or even brought to new heights by the gods of the skies?Well you have that here. The Price sisters have done it again. Awesome play on the myth and legends. A with too many +'s :)
A quick read when you need an escape from reality. Loved the trio of friends and portrayal of the gods. A new twist to a time old story of the gods. Well done! I would enjoy seeing more books involving the couples. Fated Mates shows that the gods have a fun and naughty side too!
What a book to start my first week of the year reading. SP, a.k.a. Dagmar Avery, has wrapped up three stories in this erotic adventure of three young women, orphans, and their trip to Greece together.Who wouldn't want to be invited to an exclusive party of the Gods? Hades, Hypnos, & The Gods of the Skies take over the stories as the men give chase to their Fated Mates.
