I bought so many Christmas books this year to boost our collection. This one was by far my 2.5 year olds favorite. The story is very nice, so are the sounds, and mommy and daddy like that there are 2 volume options and an off switch too for when we need some quiet time. =)
The book was "dead" when it showed up. We went out and found batteries to replace the ones that were dead. It still didn't work.I was very excited to give this book to my 3 year old daughter for Christmas and now we have to go out and buy her something else. We were very disappointed.
Nice book for kids, popular songs, it would have been better if there were lyrics sung with the songs, so kids can hear them and learn the songs, without needing someone to read the book/lyrics along with the tunes.
I wanted to like this book but I do not like the recordings that play when you push the buttons. They are not all in a key that is comfortable for children to sing in. So if you are planning to sing along with your kids it won't be the best experience. I am a music teacher so maybe it bothers me more than someone else but this seems like an annoying oversight because this book could be beneficial to kids musical growth but because of the key the songs are recorded in it limits that. Also - less of a big deal but not all the recordings match th number of verses written on the page.
The item is what I wanted however it arrived filthy and beat up. I got so many confusing messages about the shipment on this book I am going to keep it but disinfect it before giving to my daughter
My 3-year-old and 1-year-Old request this one every night! I am not a good singer, but they are picking up the carols like little sponges. It’s cute to hear them singing along!
Great book! My 2 year old is finally old enough to learn and sing Christmas songs and he loves this book. The songs are cut to a time that is perfect for a toddler's attention span. My son likes to press the buttons and make me switch from page to page, song to song and he has even learned the lyrics to sing along to many of the songs! Exactly what I was looking for.
As someone who hasn't sang a Christmas carol in a million years, this was great. I bought it for baby's first Christmas as something we could both get some use out of! She likes the pictures and sounds, it is helping me remember the classics, and I get to sing to her. The best part is, we will use this book for a very long time to come and it will be something special she remembers doing.

It is helpful for my son self study.
I really like it. My son is doing well with this practice book at home; since he rarely gets any homework, I keep him busy with this.
This book is okay to use as a review. I tried to use if for my son in our home school, but it doesn't review enough for us. For the price you pay it isn't a bad deal. This could be good to use over the summer as a review.
This is an excellent resource for grammar review for middle school students and even for those beyond middle school. Each topic page has a small explanation paragraph and the rest of the page has exercises for practicing the topic.

About the Author
M. Beth Shanholtzer, MAEd, RHIA, FAHIMA , has been in the health information management field for 35 years. Her experience includes HIM department management positions within hospitals in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland. She has been in academics for 20 years, and she is currently the program director and an assistant professor for an HIM associate degree program at Lord Fairfax Community College in Middletown, Virginia. She previously held positions as program director and instructor of associate degree programs at Kaplan University. She is an active AHIMA member, serving on the Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) board, and is currently chairperson of the Faculty Development Workgroup of the CEE. She also serves as a student mentor. On thestate level, Beth has served as president, education chair, and legislative chair of the West Virginia Health Information Management Association. She has presented at the AHIMA annual convention, the Assembly on Education (AOE), and WVHIMA conferences. In recognition of her experience as a practitioner and her advancement of the field of health information, Beth has earned the distinction of Fellow of the American Health Information Management Association (FAHIMA). Beth has authored and co-authored the first and second editions of Integrated Electronic Health Records: A Worktext for Greenway Medical Technologies’ PrimeSUITE, published by McGraw-Hill Education. Phillip Pullman is a genius. I bought books he recommended and so appreciated his love of writing and that of the insights of children. Oh to attend one of his lectures one day . . .
learned a lot about the art of story telling
I enjoyed Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. A lot. And this book, subtitled "On Stories and Storytelling" shows how authors like him do it. It's a collection of articles and lectures on the craft of narrative, not only in literature but also in art (there's a full-color collection of art that illustrates some of his points). And in New Yorker cartoons! The subject matter covers a remarkable range of things: Dickens's Oliver Twist to Art Spiegelman's Maus to the Charles Addams family. Not surprisingly, there's a special emphasis on children's literature and, perhaps surprisingly in a collection like this, there's hardly any duplication of content among the various talks and articles, thanks to Pullman's wide-ranging interests. As a bonus, we get pieces on some of his own works, elucidating some points that readers have found puzzling. You don't have to agree with his judgments: I was rather dismayed by his negative views of Tolkien's work and his extravagant endorsement of the unreadable (I really tried!) Anatomy of Melancholy. But agree or not, there's a lot of good reading here. A must for anyone interested in how narrative works.
Philip Pullman’s Daemon Voices: On Stories and Storytelling explores, through multiple essays and speeches, the foundations of storytelling. Pullman discusses language, metaphor, writing methods, points of view, and the relationship of various scientific principles to writing practices. As the introduction points out, many concepts are mentioned multiple times in various pieces. By the time I got to the third description of phase space, I was starting to get less stimulated by reading the repetitive material, but once I moved on to more material, I found that there was more to discover in the book. There are analyses of visual art and of various texts, including Pullman’s work as well as other authors’.I’m recommending this book to one of my good author friends because I think he’ll find it inspiring. The text is pretty dense, but I’d recommend it for people who have time for due consideration, whether they aspire to write or not.

Pullman discusses the works that influenced his own writing and teaching, and also how stories affect the lives of people-especially children, The Topic Finder at the beginning of the book is a very nice touch.Thank you to Netgalley and Knopf for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.This collection of essays and talks by Philip Pullman really inspired me as a reader, writer, and an educator. It gives a lot of insight into Pullman's thoughts and ideas on literature and his stories. After reading through this collection, I find myself being more intentional about how I recommend books to my students and how I evaluate the stories I read.
This book is a collection of essays written by Phillip Pullman. He is a very clever man, and I really enjoyed reading most of the essays. It was interesting to look at the writing process, and I always love to read other people's thoughts on classic literature. I would have given the book 5 stars, but there were two problems:1. Pullman likes to take a lot of pot shots at Christians and Christianity. This isn't really a problem for me, but it just seems like he spends an awful lot of time trying to convince everyone how silly they are for believing in a God. I think he might need to take a look at why he spends so much time trying to convince us that religion is for the weak minded.2. Pullman also is very critical of all other fantasy authors. According to Pullman, his fantasy novels are the only ones on the market that are worthwhile. Even Tolkien isn't worth reading; if you listen to Mr. Pullman.If you can get past the author's ego, you will really enjoy reading these essays.
